Service: Youth Haven Emergency Shelter

Description (Service) COVID-19 Response 
* Shelter is open for youth that are currently living there 
* all in person meetings and counselling sessions are occurring via phone and Skype, call for information 
* effective immediately, donations of pre-packaged food and house/cleaning supplies are being accepted, cannot accept clothing or homemade meals at this time 
* if you have something to donate, leave the items on the porch and knock on the door or call 705-739-7616 to let them know when you will be coming to the house  
Regular Service 
Crisis care facility offering: 
  • emergency care housing, food and clothing 
  • support in life skills development (dress, hygiene, cooking and budgeting) 
  • short or long term stay. Length of stay determined by person's need and rate of progress 
  • long term stays require carrying out a plan (continuing education, work, or job search) 
  • in-house and mobile outreach counselling services for individuals and families 
  • information and referral
Emergency Care Housing for youth who have lost their housing. 10 beds for those identifying as young men and 6 beds for those identifying as young women. 
Health Care Clinic held weekly for any youth experiencing homelessness who would like to see a doctor on a drop-in basis. Services include: 
  • full exams 
  • medication dispensing and monitoring 
  • advice and information about personal care 
  • referrals for more complicated physical needs
Partner with Barrie Community Health Centre and Canadian Mental Heath Association to provide Youth Hub at the downtown branch of the Barrie Public Library on the second and fourth Tue of the month (except Jul-Aug). Staff are available to answer any health and wellness questions. Activities and snacks also available. 
Accept donations of food staples: drop off Mon-Fri 24 hours at 22 Wellington St E * donations of Christmas gifts: winter clothing, socks, hygiene and beauty supplies, school supplies, baked goods, youth-geared Gift Cards (movies, restaurants etc.), bus tickets/passes. 
Boxes of Hope Fundraising Campaign 2019: purchase a box for $50 * contains scarves, gloves, tuques, toiletries, hygiene products and gift cards. Donors can be eligible to win prizes. Campaign runs until Christmas.
